Foundations of Figure Drawing Workshop is designed for aspiring artists who are eager to develop their skills in accurately depicting the human form. Using a live model to draw from, this two-day workshop will provide participants with fundamental techniques and insights into figure drawing through fun and engaging exercises, observation, and critique. Participants will foster their understanding of proportions, anatomy, and expressive representation while building confidence in their drawing abilities in a fun and innovative way. Open to all levels especially beginners. All supplies will be provided, just bring yourself for a fun time!
Day 1: Foundations of Figure Drawing
- Introduction to Materials: Overview of drawing materials (pencils, charcoal, paper).
- Understanding Proportions: Lecture and demonstration on basic anatomy and proportions.
- Quick exercises focused on drawing basic shapes of the human figure.
- Gesture Drawing: Extensive practice using quick, timed poses to capture movement.
- Emphasis on line quality and simplification of shapes.
Day 2: Enhancing Figure Drawings with Depth
- Light and Shadow: Introduction to light sources and their effects on the figure.
- Techniques for shading and creating volume; hands-on exercises.
- Individual Projects: Participants will select a pose or create a unique composition, and apply learned techniques with guidance and support from the instructor.
- Group Critique: Sharing and feedback session to encourage growth and constructive dialogue around each participants work.
When: Saturday October 11th & Sunday October 12th, 2025 from 10 AM to 3:30 PM each day.

About the Artist:
Sandy Frank is an artist with over 35 years of experience of sculpting and drawing the human form. She holds a BA in Illustration from the Academy of Art University and a BFA from the University of San Francisco. Her work has been showcased both nationally and internationally, and at prestigious venues such as Openings NYC in New York and the CATO Institute in Washington, DC. She regularly shows with the Studio SF Gallery in San Francisco and OLI Gallery in Guerneville, CA. Throughout her career, Frank has shared her passion for art through teaching at all levels and having served as an anatomy professor at the Academy of Art University for over 12 years. She continues to inspire and educate through private workshops in figurative sculpture and drawing, fostering creativity across diverse age groups both locally and internationally.
