Join artist and teacher Susan Chrysler White for a two day acrylic painting class that will teach you about how she creates her pieces and give you a hands-on artistic experience in the style of her work. This class will take a deep dive into acrylic painting, where you’ll learn about layering colors and how to create surprising overlays. Using small bottles of paint and spray bottles, we’ll squeeze and press acrylic paint directly on paper to create complex compositions of colors and patterns. After painting on transparent glassine paper, we'll collage the elements we create onto a larger painting on paper.

About the Artist:
Susan Chrysler White is a painter/sculptor who has taught painting for 38 years at the university level. White’s paintings are constructed by accumulating layers of acrylic and enamel paint on transparent glassine paper. She cuts and tears these laminations of glassine and collages them onto canvas. Her paintings reference the anatomical, botanical, and spiritual while also drawing from her fascination with collections and patterns. White received the Joan Mitchell Foundation Award in Painting and Sculpture and the National Endowment for the Arts. White’s work is collected by various national institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Worcester Art Museum.
"I am definitely a studio rat, spending most of everyday in my studio. I have lived in Spain, Belgium, Mexico, Louisiana, New York City and currently I live in Iowa City, IA where I taught at the University of Iowa. I have two wonderful daughters and 3 sweet granddaughters. One of my granddaughter's Rae who is 5 yrs old, has her own art studio and is an amazing budding artist."
