Deborah Weiss is a painter and printmaker born in New York with a studio and residence in southern New England. Her paintings, monotypes and mixed media panels explore the natural world through the lens of environmental influences and personal reflection. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including in China, Sweden, Italy and Denmark. Deborah’s work has been included in numerous private and public collections.
Most recently, Deborah’s work displays the energy of the natural world as both highly charged and simultaneously subtle. Her art is an exploration of the exchange between nature's elements, terrain, plant life and atmosphere. Initially, her work begins spontaneously—one gesture at a time—with editing taking place as the work unfolds. After that, there is a layering and excavation process that occurs, with each layer informing the next, which both conceals and reveals new information. In her art, as well as in the natural world, randomness and order coexist and combine to create something wholly new.
